What’s For Dinner? Heathlier Thanksgiving Recipes

I love Thanksgiving and all that it entails. The food, the gathering of friends and family, the football games & the weather all embody Thanksgiving and the warmth that it creates. While I have my favorite, once a year Thanksgiving side dishes that I don’t skimp on, I like to bring a few healthy dishes as well to create a good balance. Skinnytaste is my favorite food blog, every recipe that I have made is delicious and always a big hit. These are two of my favorite Skinnytaste Lightened Up Thanksgiving Recipes.

Skinnytaste Garlic Sweet Potato Mash 

2 lbs (4 medium) sweet potatoes, peeled & cubed

1 tbsp butter

3 cloves garlic, crushed

1/2 cup 1% milk

2 tbsp light sour cream

salt and fresh cracked ground pepper, to taste
Directions:

In a large pot boil sweet potatoes in salted water until tender, drain in a colander.

Meanwhile, melt butter and sauté garlic until lightly golden. Return potatoes to the pan, add milk and sour cream; mash until smooth and creamy. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.

Skinnytaste Banana Cream Pie  

9 inch reduced fat Graham Cracker Crust (or homemade)

4 oz 1/3 less fat Philadelphia Cream Cheese

1/4 cup reduced fat sour cream

1/4 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

6 oz Tru Whip

2 medium bananas, sliced

chocolate shavings, optional

 

Directions:
In a large bowl, whip cream cheese, sour cream, vanilla and sugar for a few minutes until mixed well. Add Tru Whip and whip until smooth. Put banana slices on the crust,  top with filling and chill for a few hours, until firm. Top with shaved chocolate if desired before serving.
